The roots are alexiteric, antipyretic, bitter, laxative and thermogenic and are used for allaying the pain caused by the sting of scorpions. The herb is also used for sciatica. It is highly effective for backaches, muscular sprains and joint pains. The plant extract is used as cooling agent in summers.
